The biggest takeaway we should get from any self-help book is not to slack off on the strategies the author gives us. We have to be INTENTIONAL with our self-care. Make Rituals for ourselves and stick to them.
Obviously, we would all love to do this. I can just imagine starting my day journaling 3 pages, then working through my gratitude journal while sipping on my frothy white chocolate mocha. After that, I would sneak in a run or workout, take a relaxing bath, do the beauty ritual that makes me feel my best, etc. But that is REALLY TOUGH when I have to prepare lessons for work, feed kids breakfast, do laundry, help with homework, get to sport events, etc. Where is the time?
The truth is that I waste a lot of time. How many hours have I spent scrolling through Instagram? I even carved out enough time to watch the whole Tiger King series, and by the way, Carole Baskin did kill her husband. I can’t schedule my ideal day every day, but I can take baby steps toward my happiness or self-care. Moms often put ourselves last, but we don’t need to. We need to commit to loving ourselves.
JOURNAL 3 pages upon waking up. Don’t do anything else before doing this! No checking Instagram or text messages. Just write! I promise that you have time, and it will be worth it! You will start to see a pattern that will show what is happening in your heart. Is there something that you are constantly writing about? Maybe it is something you want to do. Or you might notice that something that is really bothering you. The idea of journaling is nothing new. It is just a matter of setting an intention to do it and getting it done. If you are struggling with coming up with ideas here are few from the book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies.
