My Survival: A Girl on Schindler’s List

This is a perfect memoir to introduce upper elementary students to the history of The Holocaust. Rena’s voice captured my heart through her honest account of her experience. Some may argue that she did not give enough details, but I liked that it was something that kids could read and grasp the concepts of her struggles. I saw so many talking points that could be used in a classroom to teach a younger audience about tolerance, history, and empathy. It was a quick read that could intrigue young readers to read more books relating to this time in history. As a teacher, I loved how she closed the book with her quote from JFK and her message of being an upstander. I will definitely read this in my classroom and with my own children.
